Motorway tuition that fits your experience

Practical support for the journeys you need to make

Motorways demand earlier planning, steady observation and decisions made at a different pace. One-to-one tuition lets you work on those skills with clear guidance beside you and feedback connected to the situations you actually meet.

Motorway tuition is voluntary and motorway driving is not part of the practical car driving test. Learners may drive on motorways in England, Scotland and Wales only with an approved driving instructor in a car fitted with dual controls, and DMSM will only take a learner onto a motorway when the instructor judges that they are ready. Check the current GOV.UK learner-driving rules.

Is motorway tuition only for new drivers?

No. Motorway tuition is for learners whose instructor judges them ready, newly qualified drivers, full-licence holders who feel unsure, and drivers returning after a break. A learner may only drive on a motorway with an approved driving instructor in a dual-control car.

What will we cover in a tuition session?

Tuition is shaped around your needs and can cover preparation, joining, lane discipline, safe separation, overtaking, signs and lane signals, changing traffic and weather, roadworks, leaving the motorway and breakdown awareness.

Do I need access to a car?

No. DMSM provides practical one-to-one motorway tuition in an automatic, dual-control tuition car.

Where do we meet and travel?

DMSM will agree a suitable meeting point and motorway route with you before the session, based on your location, experience and goals.

How do I book or change a session?

Use the motorway tuition enquiry form to discuss a new session. If you need to change an arranged session, contact DMSM directly as early as possible.
